Channel Styles Settings

The Channel Styles dialog controls the styles and displayed components of the micro, short, medium and long AutoTrend channels

The buttons on the left of this sub-dialog of the Chart Settings tab on the Dashboard, select a tab for each of the micro, short, medium and long term AutoTrend channels, where the settings are set, which control the style of display for each type of channel on the main Historical Chart. The settings are similar for each type:

Channel Group

These settings control how this type of channel is drawn on the Historical Chart:

  • Display channel: If checked, the price-channel is displayed on the chart
  • Display channel from trend start: If checked, the channel is shown from the point it was backfilled from (the trend start), otherwise it is displayed starting from the end of the previous channel
  • Display swing direction indicator: If checked, an indicator is displayed at the right hand end of the active channel, indicating if it is swinging up / down, or is unchanged
  • Display priority: Specifies the order that channel types are drawn on the chart, with the highest numbered channel drawn on top of (i.e. obscuring) the other channels

Channel Styling  Group

These settings control how this type of channel is styled on the Historical Chart. Extra settings are provided for banded channels (i.e. medium and long channels), which support a more detailed banding structure than the micro and short channels:

  • Make bands transparent: If checked, obscured channels will show through the channels on top. However, this can make the display more complex and harder to interpret
  • Channel style: The options are as follows (for the difference between these styles please refer to the documentation on Channel Banding):
    • Trend line: only the channel’s trend line is shown
    • Named bands (lines): the channel’s named-band boundary lines are drawn on either side of the trend line
    • Named bands: the channels named-bands are drawn as coloured bands on either side of the trend line
    • TSD bands (lines): the channel is drawn as a series of Tenth Std Deviation (TSD) boundary lines on either side of the trend line
    • TSD bands (alternate): only every second TSD boundary line is drawn
    • TSD bands (major bands): only the major TSD boundary line divisions are drawn
  • Band style: defines the colour used to fill the bands or draw the boundary lines
  • Show trend line / confidence line / band boundaries: Enables or disables the display of the various lines that make up the channel structure
  • Show price swing lines / in active channel only: (medium and long term channels only) Enables or disables the display of in-channel price-swing zig-zag lines, with a sub-option to restrict the display to the current (active) channel only (see Channel Data, for information on testing in-channel price swings in your Trading Spec)

TSD Band Styling Group: Settings to specify the width of each TSD band and the range of these bands on either side of the channel’s trend-line

Named Band Styling Group (medium and long term channels only): Settings to enable / disable the display of the channel’s turn-bands and/or mid-bands (Please refer to the documentation on Channel Banding)
